School theater programs, unlike other well-known extra-curricular programs, have tended to go it alone in their regions. How much better it would be for the students if there were some cross-pollination among production staff and among student peers.
The school theater calendar, with the addition of a college season list this year, is TheaterHub's public face. It is especially directed to encourage student travel to other productions with the expectation that peers will inspire one another. Its value to student learning is incalculable.
The 2006 fall season marks the end of the calendar's third year. Coverage has expanded from one county in its first manifestation to eight and from high schools exclusively to include middle schools and colleges. The goal is comprehensive regional coverage because all students deserve the same opportunity.
TheaterHub is a non-commercial collaborative effort among school drama clubs and theater programs and, it is intended, college and community theaters. A host of production oriented research wish list projects await time and attention. It is a pilot project. If it can make it here, it can make it anywhere.
